Two men arrested for housebreaking with over S$100,000 in cash and valuables stolen

SINGAPORE: Two men have been arrested for their suspected involvement in housebreaking and theft, which saw them allegedly steal more than S$100,000 (US$74,400) in cash and valuables.
The police said on Monday (Jul 29) that it was alerted to the incident at a residential unit along Club Street at 4.40am on Sunday.
About S$50,000 in cash was purportedly stolen, along with two luxury watches and five luxury bags worth about S$67,300 in total, and an assortment of jewellery.
Preliminary investigations showed that the two men, aged 31 aged 32, entered the affected unit by climbing over an air-con ledge. They wore caps and masks to conceal their appearances.
Through ground enquiries and images from police cameras and CCTV, officers established their identities and arrested them later that day. About S$41,400 in cash, two luxury watches and the five luxury bags were recovered.
A 30-year-man was also arrested on the same day for harbouring one of the two men. Police investigations are ongoing against him.
The two men will be charged in court on Tuesday for the offence of housebreaking and theft with common intention. They face a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.
Those who harbour offenders may face a jail term of up to one-fourth of the longest term of imprisonment provided for the predicate offence, a fine, or both.
Police advised property owners to secure all doors, windows and other openings when leaving their premises unattended, even for a short while.
Property owners should also refrain from keeping large sums of cash and valuables in the premises. They should install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and CCTVs to cover the access points into their properties.
